Join us on May 12 at The Drake to hear His Excellency Michael D. Higgins deliver The Harris School's King Abdullah II Annual Leadership Lecture. The President's visit to Chicago comes five weeks following his historic State Visit to the UK.
Michael D. Higgins has been President of Ireland since November 2011. He previously served as Ireland's first Minister for the Arts from 1993 to 1997, and served as Labour Party spokesman for Foreign Affairs in Dail Eireann. He was a founding member of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs, and Mayor of Galway on two occasions. Higgins served in the Seanad for nine years and in Dail Eireann for 25 years. Prior to his career in public service, he was a lecturer in political science and sociology in Ireland and in the United States. He studied at University College Galway, the University of Manchester, and the Univerity of Indiana.
